Put a little SPRING in your step!

I’ve decided to attempt to will away the cold weather through a little spring shopping. The first thing on my list is this skirt from EmersonMade. I love polka dots, however in the wrong color, fabric, or cut they can look too little girl or too retro. This skirt’s creative scalloped hem and tailored shape are the perfect formula for making these dots super chic.

Mad about Milly

Can you tell that I can’t wait for the return of Mad Men(2012 seems to long to wait for new episodes!)? In the mean time, I’m loving these Betty Draperesque floral dresses from Milly.

Bright Side

It may still be chilly here in NYC but at least it’s super sunny! I’m in the market for new shades for the season, what do you think about this retro-shaped Cutler and Gross pair from J.Crew?

Timeless Advice

This month, Abrams Books re-realeased Edith Head’s 1967 book, How to Dress for Success. It’s amazing that so much of the content is so relatable 40+ years later. I especially love the point she makes about leaving some mystery and not wearing any too revealing on a date(wear something tastefully risque as I like to call it!).

Modern Glamour

Hand sculpted and painted in his Brooklyn studio, Alexis Bittar’s “Lucite” collection demonstrates a perfect marriage of modern design and 1930’s vintage flair.  I love accessories that can be paired with multiple looks and this bracelet could dress up a soft grey tee as easily as it could complement a silver cocktaildress.

Lightweight and Ladylike

Amanda Weiner, Fashion and Accessories Editor for Gotham Magazine photographed by Vanessa Jackman

Love the airy/lightweight feel of the yellow floral dress underneath the gray fur collared jacket; perfectly ladylike while still giving off a laid back vibe.

For the thrift-shop-challenged

For a much as I love vintage stores and flea markets, its surprising that I don’t actually own more than a few actual vintage pieces.  Although vintage clothing can be inspiring and one of a kind, It can be difficult to find vintage clothing that fits you correctly and is in good enough shape to sustain a couple of washes. So if you love truly feminine vintage looks but can’t seem to find the right fit, try Recollection, a label dedicated to looks, “straight out of another time but in perfect condition with a perfect fit.”(About, sandra-murphy.com).

Glass Half Full

The only good thing about a dreary, rainy New York day like today is that it gives you the oppurtunity to rock stylish raincoats.

Love this tibi raincoat available on net-a-porter.com

MUST See! Bill Cunningham at Film Forum!

If you live in NYC, you have until March 26 to  get to Film Forum and see this amazing documentary on New York institution Bill Cunningham. A longtime fashion photographer and contributor to The New York Times Style Section, the documentary Bill Cunningham New York by Richard Press gives us a close look a the man behind ‘On the Street” and “Evening hours”. Last night’s sold out premiere had a couple of fun suprises including Q & A with the films Director, Richard Press and Producer, Phillip Gefter as well as an apperance by Cunningham’s longtime neighbor and friend, Editta Sherman(who is even more fabulous in person than she is in photos!). I literally grinned ear to ear the entire film, a MUST SEE!
