Calculated Risk

My 2 favorite looks from Sunday’s Golden Globe were hands down Michelle Williams in Jason Wu and Claire Danes in J.Mendel.  Neither starlet sported a traditional gown; taking a risk, {but taking it well}. The combination of prints and embellishment with simple silhouettes result in a look that is both elegant and unexpected. Not to mention both stars gave 2 of the best acceptance speeches of the evening.

Something New on Style Me Pretty!

A few months ago, I mentioned designing a wedding hair ribbon  for a very good friend of mine. My friend’s look for her wedding was just stunning.  The editors at Style Me Pretty must have thought so too, they covered it in a gorgeous feature yesterday!

Masked Glamour

Since I’ve lived in New York; I’ve alternated my 2 favorite costumes; Minnie Mouse and Kelly Kapowski  each Halloween(awesomely or embarrassingly I already owned everything I needed for both costumes from a red chiffon polka-dot dress from Laundry to American Apparel leggings and keds). I was debating which one to pull out this year when my friend decided to throw a Gossip Girl style Masquerade party! I’ve been shopping around for the perfect mask to complement my Blair Waldorf inspired ensemble(Fitted, Pleated Black taffeta French Connection dress, patterned tights and bright lipstick). I LOVE these 2 masks that Refinery29 posted last week from Screaming Mimi’s-can’t wait to check them out in person!

Bright Blitz!

The 80-degree weather in NYC seems to be bringing out the bright side of everything!! I love these dresses from Issa because they prove that being ladylike doesn’t necessarily mean being conservative. Each cut is perfectly fit and flattering without being too tight or too short. They are, as I love to say; tastefully risque! And, If you don’t have an occasion for a lace party dress, indulge your bright side with one of these summer colors from essie.

Essie Colors from left clockwise; mezmerized, pretty edgy, geranium, blanc, golden nuggets, too too hot.

Tempting Tibi

Everyone has a shopping weakness. Lately, I have not been able to walk into a department store or boutique without gravitating toward tibi. With ladylike sillouettes, elegant fabrics, and intricate details, the looks couldn’t be harder to resist.  I’m off this weekend to a family destination wedding in Las Vegas, and if my suitcase wasn’t already filled to the brim, I’d take along this beauty for the reception.

Simply Stunning

I usually looks for themes on the red carpet; neutrals, brights, silhoutte’s ect.. However my top 3 favorite looks from last night’s Costume Gala at the Met share only one adjective, absolutley breathtaking….

Chanel Iman in Dolce & Gabbana. It’s so refreshing to see this legnth among all of the long gowns. Love the fun accessories!

Eva Mendes in Stelle McCartney. I love the bold pleats and color. The 70’s one sleeve is so unexpected, and of course, I can’t reisist a chic belted look.

This look needs no introduction or description. Gisele in Alexander McQueen, just stunning.

Timeless Advice

This month, Abrams Books re-realeased Edith Head’s 1967 book, How to Dress for Success. It’s amazing that so much of the content is so relatable 40+ years later. I especially love the point she makes about leaving some mystery and not wearing any too revealing on a date(wear something tastefully risque as I like to call it!).
