Glamour Guild Must Reads!

I’ve been on a bit of a memoir binge the past few months. It started with Art and Madness, and obviously continued with Tina Fey’s Bossy Pants and Mindy Kalings, Is Everyone Hanging out without me?

Though I enjoyed all of them, My most most recent pick; Diane Keaton’s Then Again became one of my favorites within a few short chapters.

In addition to a great read, It was also the perfect mothers day gift!

Dressing the part

After reading Andre Tally proclaim costume designer Sharon Davis as the next Edith Head,  I could not wait to see her latest project, The Help. I’m always hesitant to see a movie if I’ve really loved the book(which in this case, I did).  I never want to alter the way I’ve pictured the characters. Ms. Davis did an impeccable job of capturing not only the mood and attitude of the 1960’s in the south, she stayed true to the character’s personalities.

In this LA Times article, Davis talks about her references. Because of the area and demographic of Jackson,Mississippi, referencing  high fashion publications from the such as vintage Vogue’s would not have been accurate. Instead Davis looked to JC Penney’s catalogues for the more feminine looks and to old yearbooks from Ole Miss for the more academic ensembles.  Her attention to detail really brings each character to life, each woman was exactly how I pictured!

Danger! Distractions Ahead!

In anticipation of seeing Franca Sozzani speak at and an NYU/Vogue Italia Event on Tuesday, I decided to spend a little time on Vogue Italia’s website,, and by a little time, I mean HOURS. The website is incredible, a blogger’s paridise of fantastic images.  With sections for trends, shows, vintage photo archives, and (my personal favorite) Vogue Curvy(!) this website could keep any designer, blogger,  or just plain fashion obsessed individual occupied for hours!

Timeless Advice

This month, Abrams Books re-realeased Edith Head’s 1967 book, How to Dress for Success. It’s amazing that so much of the content is so relatable 40+ years later. I especially love the point she makes about leaving some mystery and not wearing any too revealing on a date(wear something tastefully risque as I like to call it!).
