Sophie Gimbel Exhibit at Parsons-Must See NYC SNEAK PEAK!

One of the best perks about having friends in grad school is getting the head’s up on all of the the amazing events the NYC academic community has to offer. My good friend Liz, an MA candidate at Parsons gave me the tip on a great one coming up;

This fall Parsons will mount the first ever exhibition to showcase the work of New York fashion designer Sophie Gimbel.  From 1931 – 1969, Sophie designed and sold thousands of dresses out of her specialty boutique, the Salon Moderne, which she ran on the third floor of the Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship.  Pulling from its own archives the exhibtion, titled, Sophie of Saks: Sophie Gimbel and the Salon Modern, will showcases some of the designers most beautiful custom gowns, as well as best-selling ready-to-wear pieces from throughout her long career.  Sophie of Saks will likely open its doors in early September, but a sneak peak can been seen at http://fashion.parsons.edu/sophie/.
